Thanks to Aaron Judge’s missile of an eighth inning home run, the Yankees came away with a 3-2 win on Wednesday afternoon, taking the series over the Mariners. They have today off to come back east ahead of a Subway Series matchups against the Mets and a certain someone this weekend.

The Yankees didn’t play the only game relevant to out interests yesterday, let’s take a look at some of the other action in today’s Rivalry Roundup.

Detroit Tigers (29-15) 6, Boston Red Sox (22-23) 5

After a back and forth game, Justyn-Henry Malloy’s single gave the Tigers a walk-off win after nearly missing a golden chance in the ninth inning.

The two teams traded runs early, with the Red Sox taking both 1-0 and 2-1 leads, only to get answered by Detroit twice. The Tigers then seemingly took control of the game with three runs in the sixth, including a two-run Riley Greene homer.

However, Boston answered right back, scoring three runs themselves in the seventh. The tying hit came from Rafael Devers, after what’s been an eventful week for him. The Tigers then nearly took the lead right back in the bottom of the inning, but two Red Sox fielders combined to rob Kerry Carpenter of a homer. Yes, you read that right.

In the top of the ninth, the Red Sox missed out on a chance to take the lead back, despite having two on and nobody out. That came back to haunt them.

Andy Ibáñez led off the bottom of the ninth with a walk off Aroldis Chapman, and then ended up on third after he stole second and moved up to third thanks to an error on the throw. Detroit nearly missed out of a perfect chance themselves when Chapman retired the next two batter, but a pinch-hitting Malloy dropped in a single for the win.

Houston Astros (22-20) 4, Kansas City Royals (25-20) 3

After trailing for most of the game, the Astros took their first lead of the game in the eighth inning, and that ended up being enough to beat the Royals.

Kansas City struck first, scoring two in the second inning courtesy of Maikel Garcia and Jonathan India. While Houston cut into that a bit with a run in the fourth, KC immediately answered back with a run of their own and held that lead going into the late innings.

Jeremy Peña cut the Astros’ deficit to one with an RBI double in the sixth, however they still trailed in the eighth, as they were down to their last couple outs. There, Houston’s offense’s offense came to life. Three-straight hits were capped off by another RBI from Peña, that one giving the Astros the lead.

In the ninth, Bobby Witt Jr. drew a walk as the Royals looked to rally, but he ended up being stranded as Josh Hader finished off a win.

Other Games

Milwaukee Brewers (21-23) 9, Cleveland Guardians (25-18) 5: The Brewers scored seven runs from the sixth inning on, downing the Guardians and allowing the Yankees to draw even with Cleveland in the standings. Led by Rhys Hoskins’ four hits and five RBI, Milwaukee pounded Guardians pitching, especially the bullpen, who they got for nine hits in four innings.

Minnesota Twins (22-20) 6, Baltimore Orioles (15-25) 3 – Game 1: Christian Vázquez’s three RBI helped the Twins extend their win streak to nine in the first game of a doubleheader against the Orioles. Baltimore took a 3-0 lead early, but Minnesota overtook them in the fourth with homers from Brooks Lee and Vázquez, and only increased the lead from there.

Minnesota Twins (23-20) 8, Baltimore Orioles (15-26) 6 – Game 2: Minnesota then made it ten in a row in the second game. Kody Clemens led the way that time around, driving in four runs, including three on an eighth inning homer that allowed the Twins to rally past the O’s.
