The Chicago White Sox have made a minor league roster move, claiming infielder Ben Cowles on waivers from the Chicago Cubs.
The White Sox assigned Cowles to Triple-A Charlotte after the roster move, the team announced Wednesday.
Cowles was designated for assignment by the Cubs on Monday to clear a 40-man roster spot for infielder Carlos Santana, who was signed by the Cubs on the Labor Day holiday.
He was originally traded to the Cubs in July 2024 in exchange for pitcher Mark Leiter Jr., and had been assigned to the Triple-A Iowa Cubs this season. He hit nine home runs and drove in 44 RBI’s for Iowa, stealing 16 bases and racking up 28 doubles while slashing .238/.304/.382 in 113 games played.
Cowles’ addition gives the White Sox 39 players on their 40-man roster, the team announced.
