PHOENIX — It appears Tyler Mahle’s return to the Rangers rotation will be delayed at least another five days.

After Mahle allowed five runs in an inning plus of his first rehab outing on Tuesday, President of Baseball Operations Chris Young indicated the right-hander would “likely” get another rehab outing.

Reliever Cole Winn, who pitched a 1-2-3, 17-pitch inning in his rehab outing Tuesday, is expected to be activated on Friday when the Rangers open a three-game series with Houston.

Mahle, who hasn’t appeared in a major league game since mid-June due to “arm fatigue,” got the first two outs of his appearance with Triple-A Round Rock on Tuesday without incident, then allowed three straight hits to account for a pair of runs. After getting out of the first, he allowed a three-run homer in the second without getting an out.

Mahle’s fastball averaged about 91 mph, down about one mile from his season average.

The Rangers have also been getting solid work from Jacob Latz, who has filled the rotation spot vacancy created when Nathan Eovaldi was lost to a rotator cuff strain. Latz has allowed four runs in 9 ⅔ over the last two starts and has a 3.38 ERA in five starts this season.

In other injury news, manager Bruce Bochy said outfielder Sam Haggerty is at least 10 days away from returning from an ankle issue. Haggerty was a potential replacement for Adolis García, out with a strained quadriceps. It may force the Rangers to simply play short until Corey Seager returns, which could potentially be as early as Sept. 12 when they open a series at the New York Mets.
