Emma Culie set the tone at the plate for a big win for Sequoyah softball.

The Lady Indians dominated over Westville Tuesday, Sept. 2, for an 11-0 district win at home. Culie went 3-3 at the plate to lead the charge for the Lady Indians.

Joselynn Munoz earned the win in the circle. The pitcher allowed just 2 hits across five innings, striking out three and giving no walks.

The Lady Indians got their bats going early in the first inning, when Waleli Hummingbird crushed a ball for a sacrifice fly and Kenzie Fourkiller singled to center, each bringing home a run.

SHS continued to show their determination and went on a a 5-run surge in the second inning. Culie doubled in a run, while Hummingbird and Laci Shomo each drew bases-loaded walks. Fourkiller finished off the inning with a with a 2-run single.

In the third inning, SHS added to the the lead as Culie and Hummingbird each drove in runs with singles, followed by a sacrifice fly by Preslie Daniels.

The Lady Indians racked up a total of 11 hits overall. Fourkiller drove in three runs while Shomo and Emmy Young displayed patience at the plate, leading SHS’ total of seven walks. Layney Smith took two of the team’s seven stolen bases, showcasing her speed and the Lady Indians’ aggressive approach.

SHS will be back on the field at the Silo Tournament Thursday, Sept. 4, and Friday, Sept. 5.
