The Texas Rangers activated pitcher Cole Winn from the 15 day injured list yesterday. To make room for Winn on the active roster, the Rangers have placed pitcher Danny Coulombe on the 15 day injured list with left shoulder fatigue, retroactive to September 1.
Winn last appeared in a major league game on August 19, when he allowed two runs to the Royals in a 5-2 loss. He made a rehab appearance for Round Rock on Tuesday, and threw a scoreless inning. In 31 innings so far this season for Texas, Winn has a 1.45 ERA, a 3.95 FIP and a 3.88 xERA.

Coulombe was acquired from the Minnesota Twins at the trade deadline in exchange for 2024 6th round draft pick Garrett Horn. The move appeared to be a coup, as Coulombe had put up a 1.16 ERA and a 2.01 FIP in 31 innings over 40 appearances for the Twins at that point, and from 2022-24 logged a 2.41 ERA and 2.96 FIP in 93 innings.
However, Coulombe has allowed seven runs in his last six outings, covering just 3.2 innings. Perhaps most notably, he allowed three hits without recording an out in the eighth inning in Toronto on August 15, a game where the Rangers were up 5-2 heading into the bottom of the ninth, but saw Coulombe and Phil Maton combine to allow four runs in the eighth of what turned into a 6-5 loss.
Coulombe hasn’t pitched since August 26, when he allowed three runs, including a pair of homers, in the ninth inning of a 7-3 win against Anaheim. Because injured list designations can only be retroactive up to three days, by putting him on the i.l. yesterday, the placement could be made retroactive to September 1, meaning he could be back on September 16 at the earliest.
