Texas State baseball landed two high school recruits Thursday, with catcher Jaxon McKnight and pitcher Max Magnum announcing their commitments.
McKnight is the fifth player to join the Bobcats’ 2026 recruiting class, which consists of Rylan Alaniz, Daylen Foor, Kortland Stovall and Trevyn Turner, according to Perfect Game. A senior at Atascocita, McKnight’s pop time was measured between 1.76 and 1.91 in July at the Prep Baseball senior future games. Texas State’s new recruiting coordinator, Brandon Gowins, spent the last four years as the Texas Scouting Director for Prep Baseball.
According to Prep Baseball North Texas Scouting Director Max Semler’s report from the summer, McKnight values putting the ball in play over hitting for power. Though he isn’t the largest frame at 5-foot-9, 180 pounds, McKnight reportedly has room to add weight.
Gowins has only been on the job for a month, but his hire is already proving fruitful for the Bobcats’ recruiting efforts in Texas.
“I couldn’t be more fired up to add Brandon to the staff and to be our recruiting coordinator. He is one of the most respected guys in the business of identifying and evaluating talent, especially in the state of Texas,” Texas State head coach Steven Trout said in July of Gowins’ hire.
