Earlier this month, the Los Angeles Dodgers were short-handed in the infield as injuries sidelined Tommy Edman, Hyeseong Kim, Max Muncy, and Kiké Hernandez.

With so many position players on the injured list, this left LA scrambling for reinforcements amidst an important stretch of the season. A temporary solution for the Dodgers’ problems came in the form of Buddy Kennedy, who the team claimed off waivers from the Toronto Blue Jays after Muncy landed on the IL with a right oblique strain.
The Blue Jays designated Kennedy for assignment after signing him to a minor league deal in July. The infielder wound up with the defending champions for a short 10-day stint.
Kennedy appeared in seven games with the Dodgers, going 1-for-17 (.059) with five strikeouts.
Once Hernandez returned from the injured list, Kennedy was DFA’d by the Dodgers and cleared waivers. He was sent outright to Triple-A Oklahoma City, but the infielder elected free agency.
Earlier this week, Kennedy returned to Toronto and has already played for Triple-A Buffalo. This season, the infielder has spent time with the Dodgers, Philadelphia Phillies and Blue Jays. He’s appeared in 13 MLB games this season, going 2-for-29 (.069) with one run batted in and eight strikeouts.
Kennedy is no stranger to the NL West as he was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the fifth round of the 2017 MLB draft. The 26-year-old made his MLB debut in 2022 and has appeared in 67 big league games with the Diamondbacks, Detroit Tigers, Phillies, Blue Jays and Dodgers.
