The Chicago White Sox made a flurry of roster moves Thursday ahead of their series opener in Detroit, activating reliever Dan Altavilla from the injured list while calling up outfielder Dominic Fletcher and optioning two players to Triple-A Charlotte.

Altavilla Returns from Injury

The most significant move sees right-hander Dan “The Big House” Altavilla activated from the 15-day injured list after missing over a month with a right lat strain. Altavilla has been sidelined since August 2 but returns as one of the White Sox’s more reliable bullpen arms this season.

The 31-year-old has posted a solid 2.36 ERA across 26.2 innings of work in 2025, providing much-needed stability to Chicago’s relief corps during a challenging season. His return gives manager Will Venable another option in late-game situations.

Fletcher Gets Another Shot

The White Sox selected the contract of outfielder Dominic Fletcher from Charlotte, marking his first major league opportunity since last season. Fletcher, the younger brother of Angels outfielder David Fletcher, will look to make an impact during his call-up as the White Sox continue evaluating talent for the future.

Fletcher’s promotion comes as Chicago continues to assess its organizational depth and give opportunities to players who could factor into future plans.

Roster Shuffling

To make room for the additions, the White Sox optioned both first baseman Tim Elko and right-hander Jonathan Cannon to Triple-A Charlotte.

Elko’s demotion comes after he was recently recalled following Miguel Vargas’s injury. The move suggests the White Sox are comfortable with their current first base situation or prefer to give Elko more regular playing time in the minors.

Cannon’s option follows a disappointing return from Triple-A. The right-hander struggled in his most recent appearance on Wednesday against the Minnesota Twins, failing to build on his earlier success this season and earning a quick trip back to Charlotte.

Roster Management

The moves reflect the White Sox’s continued focus on player development and evaluation during the final month of a rebuilding season. With playoff contention out of reach, Chicago is using September to assess talent and make decisions about the organization’s future direction.

Altavilla’s return provides immediate help to the bullpen, while Fletcher’s call-up offers another evaluation opportunity for a player looking to establish himself at the major league level.
