It has been exactly since weeks since the Colorado Rockies shipped Ryan McMahon away to the New York Yankees in return for prospects Griffin Herring and Josh Grosz. One of the club’s most talented and longest tenured players is now contributing for a contender in the AL while the Rockies are still trying to not become the worst team in baseball’s modern era.

McMahon’s numbers have slightly increased out in the Bronx, as he’s slashed .243/.341/.393 for the game’s most historic franchise. Rockies fans should be happy for him, he now gets a chance to compete for a competent ball club. While he’s out there competing, the two players the Rockies received have been down in High-A playing ball for the Spokane Indians.

Grosz hasn’t been pitching well in his 38.1 innings of action (1-6 record, 5.87 ERA), but Herring has found his stride of late.. The 22-year-old righty was awarded a prestigious honor from the Northwest League for his efforts with the Indians in August.

Herring averaged a whopping 14.04 strikeouts per nine innings in August to go along with a 2.16 ERA and a .096 WHIP. In six starts, he posted a 1-0 record and only allowed more than two hits on one occasion. That’s the pitching talent that this organization needs if it wants to crawl out of baseball’s basement someday. The tape doesn’t lie either, the stuff he’s throwing is nasty.

Griffin Herring stays sharp for the High-A @spokaneindians!

Herring is the No. 9 prospect in the Rockies system, and the No. 3 pitcher. His projected MLB debut is in 2027. The Indians have just two contests left on the schedule for the season, but Herring is slated to get his final start tonight when the team takes on the Eugene Emeralds.

Herring’s major league debut is still a ways away, but it’s a good sign for Rockies fans that at least one of the prospects they acquired at the deadline is playing well.
