Brandon Woodruff gets back on track
Having scuffled a bit in his previous four starts, Woodruff turned in one of his strongest performances of the season against the Pirates.
Over six innings and 85 pitches, he scattered a pair of singles, didn’t issue a walk and struck out eight batters – including the first five looking – while retiring 15 of the final 16.
Manager Pat Murphy opted to go with Erick Fedde to start the seventh and Milwaukee still clinging to its tenuous 2-0 lead, and he was greeted by a Bryan Reynolds double. But Fedde recorded the next two outs and Rob Zastryzny worked around a walk to Oneil Cruz by getting Nick Yorke to foul out.

Jake Bauers stays hot
Keller had mostly mowed through Milwaukee’s lineup the first time through, allowing a only a double to Sal Frelick to begin the game and a single to Jake Bauers to lead off the second.
The Brewers were then a batter away from a fourth consecutive scoreless inning when William Contreras blooped a two-out single to center, bringing Bauers to the plate.
He, in turn, swung away in a 3-0 count and hammered a two-run home run to right field to break the scoreless tie. It was the first homer for Bauers since June 10 and his fourth hit in the series to that point.
Brice Turang completes a rare feat
Murphy batting Brice Turang third, it left the second baseman with the rare distinction of now having hit in every spot in Milwaukee’s order this season, 1-9.

Turang became just the fifth player in franchise history to have accomplished the feat and first since Lorenzo Cain in 2021.
Dave May (1974), Bobby Mitchell (1975) and Bill Hall (2005) are the others.

The Brewers’ Brandon Woodruff entered his start against the Pirates with a 5-2 record and 3.69 ERA.
