CINCINNATI (WKRC) – The New York Mets have signed left-hander Joe La Sorsa to a minor league contract just days after he was designated for assignment by the Cincinnati Reds.

La Sorsa recently opted for free agency rather than accepting an outright assignment to the Cincinnati Reds’ Triple-A affiliate in Louisville. After clearing waivers, he chose to explore other opportunities.

In his first two MLB seasons, La Sorsa recorded a 4.47 ERA over 50 1/3 innings and 41 games with the Tampa Bay Rays and Washington Nationals. He then joined the Reds on a minor league contract, and was added to the active roster in early June.

La Sorsa only made five appearances for Cincinnati, with a 10.80 ERA in 6 2/3 innings. His most recent outings were for an inning each on Aug. 15 and Aug. 16 against the Milwaukee Brewers. He allowed three hits and two earned runs, including a homer, in the second appearance, and took the loss.
