PITTSBURGH — An intriguing pitching matchup between two talented rookies turned incredibly one-sided.
Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander Bubba Chandler was knocked around in his first big-league start, while Jacob Misorowski tossed a career-high seven innings to give the Milwaukee Brewers a 10-2 win and a series sweep on Sunday at PNC Park.
How We Got There
The first five batters of the game all reached base against Chandler and a Jake Bauers’ two-run double sparked a four-run first inning.
The Brewers (89-55) scored another on Chandler’s wild pitch in the second inning to extend their lead to 5-0. Milwaukee knocked Chandler (2-1) out in the third inning after scoring four more runs on three hits and a pair of walks.
Andrew McCutchen doubled to open the second inning for the Pirates (64-80) and scored on Liover Peguero’s two-out single. It was the only blemish for Misiorowski (5-2) in his seven innings.
The Brewers added another off Yohan Ramírez in the seventh to push their total to double digits.
Cam Devanney recorded his first-career RBI and extra-base hit with a run-scoring double to left field in the eighth. Devanney pinch-hit for Jared Triolo.
Key Moment
Bubba Chandler got the ground ball he wanted in the first, the Jake Bauers’ sharply-hit ball was placed right down the line and went for a two-run double. Milwaukee kept the foot on the gas after that with 14 hits.
Player of the Game
Jacob Misiorowski allowed one run on just three hits with two walks and eight strikeouts. He threw 74 of his 108 pitches for strikes. 11 of those 108 pitches were 100-plus mph.
Stat to Know
