NAPOLEON — Blaine Ford’s two-out, two-run single in the fourth inning proved to be the game-winner, as Napoleon defeated Fremont Ross 4-2 in Northern Lakes League Cardinal Division action Wednesday at Booster Field on the campus of Napoleon High School.

The Wildcats are now 14-5 overall and 9-4 in the NLL, tied with Clay for the lead in the Cardinal Division. Napoleon travels to Whitmer Friday for an NLL crossover game.

The Cats scored a pair of runs in the third inning, as Trey Rubinstein led off the inning with a single and Cal Bickel followed with a walk. Ford singled home Rubinstein and Bickel also scored on the play after an error in left field.

The Little Giants tied the game with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth inning, but Ford again came through for Napoleon.

Paul Sausser led off the bottom of the fourth inning with a single and Parker Woods reached base on an error by the third baseman. Following a strikeout and a fly ball to left, Bickel walked to load the bases. Ford singled home a pair of runs to make it 4-2.

That was plenty of run support for Napoleon starter Owen Espinoza.

Espinoza went the distance and allowed two runs — both unearned — on two hits and four walks. He struck out 10.

Ford led the offense, going 2 for 4 with three RBI. Bickel was 1 for 1 with three walks.

ARCHBOLD — The Lady Streaks scored in every inning, but the second, and broke the game open with six runs in the fifth inning to end the game, as Archbold posted a 10-0 win over Delta in the Division V sectional tournament at Memorial Park in Archbold.

Makena Thiel went the distance in the circle, pitching a no-hitter and allowing only one walk. She struck out five.

Thiel also hit a solo home run.

Charlee Forward was 2 for 2 with an RBI, while Daylin Bosco was 2 for 3 with an RBI. Klaire Kern added a two-run homer.

Gracyn Pelton took the loss for Delta (1-16). Pelton went 4 2/3 innings and allowed 10 runs — five earned — on seven hits and four walks, while striking out four.

The Lady Panthers host Stryker today for their season finale.

Archbold (15-5) advances to face Otsego in the district semifinals at Liberty Center Wednesday, May 21 at 6 p.m. The Lady Streaks host Fairview Friday in a nonleague, regular-season game.
