Behind scenes with NY Mets and Mariners at MLB Little League Classic

The Little League Classic was a day chock full of events for the Mets and Mariners on Aug. 17, 2025, in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

The latest Mets debut is on deck for their series finale with the Reds on Sunday afternoon.

Brandon Sproat, the club’s No. 5 prospect, will be the third Mets pitching prospect to make his first start in the last month when he takes the ball at 1:40 p.m. on Sunday at Great American Ball Park.

Sproat’s launch comes after Nolan McLean has gone 4-0 in his first four starts and Jonah Tong has had mixed results by going 1-1 in his first two.

Tong suffered his first defeat on Saturday night, allowing four earned runs on three hits and four walks across six innings in the Mets’ 6-3 loss.

Sproat will look to get the Mets back on track before they head to Philadelphia for a four-game series with the Phillies, beginning on Monday.

Entering Sunday, the Mets are seven games back of the Phillies in the NL East while holding a four-game edge over the Giants for the final NL Wild Card spot. The Mets are 4.5 games up on the Diamondbacks and five games ahead of the Reds, who will trot out standout right-hander Hunter Greene (5-4, 2.70 ERA, 101 strikeouts) for Sunday’s matinee.

In Triple-A Syracuse this season, Sproat is 8-6 with a 4.24 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 113 strikeouts in 121 innings.
