The Guardians had a fun game last night, winning 10-2 over the Royals as starter Slade Cecconi took a no-hitter into the eighth inning. Nicole wrote about the game here. Cecconi still gives up so much hard contact and doesn’t get enough whiffs… but my goodness does he still look like a real pitcher. Slade, if you make a living at it, more power to you.
The Mariners, as we speak, have come back to take a lead over the Cardinals at home, which is a bummer. The Rangers also won yesterday, which stinks. But, there is still plenty of scoreboard watching to be done. It would be nothing new for me to see a Cleveland team figure things out a little too late. And, yet, I still love the idea of them fighting to the end to get in. If it was never new, and it never gets old, then it’s a folk song.
The Selby is Godcast guys, TJ Zuppe and Zack Meisel, spent some time looking at the Guardians’ remaining schedule. Gabriel Arias was lifted from the game with a sore wrist last night, but if you’re betting on Travis Bazzana getting called up over another return venture for Will Wilson… I don’t see a lot of money here.
Brayan Rocchio was exceptional last night at the plate and in the field, as he still hangs around 100 wRC+ since his return in July. What I wouldn’t give for a hot stretch from him to end the season, cementing himself as a solid option at shortstop. Wonderful performer. Wonderful.
