Former Tennessee Baseball superstar Drew Gilbert has unsurprisingly brought his trademark personality with him to Major League Baseball. With the San Francisco Giants looking to continue their push for one of the National League Wild Card spots, Gilbert’s “over-the-top hype ritual” is getting his teammates plenty fired up to keep sprinting in the race with only a handful of games remaining.

A clip of Gilbert’s high-octane personality went viral on social media from Fox Sports: MLB on Monday.

While San Francisco fans and the MLB world continue to learn about Gilbert’s high-energy play style, Tennessee fans can sit back and remember the old days for all the excitement that he brought to the Vol Baseball program during his three years on Rocky Top.

Perhaps none was as memorable as his walk-off grand slam celebration against Wright State.

After being traded from the Mets to the Giants in early August, Gilbert quickly made his debut with San Fran. The 24-year-old has played in 24 games for the Giants this season with 62 at-bats, hitting .242 with three home runs and 12 RBIs.

One of those home runs came off of former teammate Chase Dollander just over a week ago.

Gilbert’s also made some phenomenal web-gem plays in the field since joining the Giants’ big-league roster, including these two highlights from the fall:

Drew Gilbert is as exciting a young baseball player as you’ll find out there today. And with him just getting his feet wet with his major league career beginning to unfold, the sky could be the limit for what sort of success and attention he brings to San Francisco as he matures into a big league ballplayer.

The Giants are currently three games back of Gilbert’s former organization, the New York Mets, for the final Wild Card spot in the National League standings. San Francisco still has upcoming series against the Phillies, the Rangers, the Padres, the Nationals, the Cubs, and the Marlins to close out the season.
