MLB.com reporter Thomas Harding is reporting that the Colorado Rockies will likely promote LHP Carson Palmquist (No. 9 PuRP) to start tomorrow night’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The move is not confirmed, but it comes after Ryan Feltner was placed on the Injured List with back issues, and the Rockies have struggled to get length out of their healthy rotation members. Although Bradley Blalock took Feltner’s place in the rotation during his last outing, the game did not go well.

Palmquist, who was scheduled to start tonight for the Albuquerque Isotopes, was pulled from the lineup, another indication that a move is forthcoming.

Currently in seven starts for the Isotopes, Palmquist has a 3.72 ERA. He has pitched in 35.1 innings with 45 strikeouts, 18 walks, and a 1.13 WHIP. As Jeff Aberle wrote in February, “Palmquist has a low, funky arm slot and has utility as both a starter and reliever.”

His arsenal boasts a fastball, slider, and changeup with the evaluators at Baseball Savant noting, “His fastball averages only around 91 mph, but it misses more bats than it should thanks to carry up in the zone from that lower slot. He’ll actually throw two different kinds of sliders — a big sweepy one in the upper 70s and a slightly harder, cutter-ish one, both of which can miss bats. His low-80s changeup is also effective and hard to square up.”

This would mark the sixth promotion by the Rockies so far in the 2025 season.

The move will require the Rockies to make a place for him on the 40-man roster.

In addition, Tyler Freeman and Aaron Schunk may be activated tomorrow as well, so be looking for additional roster changes.
