The Tampa Bay Rays have claimed pitcher Caleb Boushley on waivers from the Texas Rangers, it was announced today. Boushley was designated for assignment over the weekend to make room on the 40 man and active roster for Carl Edwards, Jr.

Boushley threw 43.1 innings over 25 appearances for the Rangers this year, with a 6.02 ERA and a 5.71 xERA. He also appeared in eight games for Round Rock, putting up a 1.08 ERA in 25 innings, though with just 18 Ks against 9 walks. Boushley does have minor league options available after this season, but has been optioned five times this year by the Rangers, and after a player has been sent down on an optional assignment five times in a season, he has to be placed on waivers in order to be sent down again. Thus, whether Boushley had been designated for assignment or not, he was going to have to clear waivers to be sent down.

Interestingly, Boushley gave up five runs both in his first appearance for the Rangers this season, on April 12, and in his final appearance for the Rangers this season, on September 6.
