SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) – The South Bend Cubs’ season is officially over, and unfortunately it wasn’t the outcome fans were hoping for.
Their season came down to their final five games where they needed to win out to make the playoffs, but ultimately they fell short.
Despite falling short of the playoffs, South Bend Cubs President Joe Hart is optimistic for the team’s future.
“At the end of the day, 2025 was a great season,” Hart says. “Yeah, we fell a little short of our goal and making the playoffs. . . We finished on a winning note. The last game of the season was a dominant victory for us, so you know, they’re going to continue to work hard, and that’s what I love about being a Cubs affiliate. Each and every year, they are going to continue to work and get better.”

With the season over, construction is already back underway for the $48 million renovation project at Four Winds Field.
Fans can expect a new splash pad that is two and a half times larger than the old one, along with new upper deck seating and a four-story club building with event space beyond the left field wall.
“We’re back at it full force. The goal is to have everything done by opening day next year,” Hart says. “Obviously, this year it was a lot of fun because our fans could come out and see the progress as it happened. Next year, it’s going to be all set and done. I think people, while this year looked different with the stadium, I think next year it’s going to look totally different again, so I’m excited to see the fans come back out on opening day next year to get their impression of the second level being complete and the new event space being done.”
The Cubs will open the 2026 season inside their newly renovated stadium on April 3 against the Quad Cities River Bandits. For a full look at the 2026 schedule, click here.
