Philadelphia Phillies designated hitter Kyle Schwarber hit his 50th home run of the season in the 7th inning of his team’s 9-3 win against the New York Mets at Citizens Bank Park. It was the 334th homer of Schwarber’s career.

It’s the first time in 11 big-league seasons that the former Middletown High School standout has reached 50 home runs. Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh is the only other MLB player with more than 50 HRs this season.

Schwarber homered four times in a game while driving in nine runs August 28 in a 19-4 win against the Atlanta Braves in Philly. It was the first time Schwarber homered four times in a game.

Schwarber boosted his season homer total to 49 with the four-homer game. He hadn’t homered since.
