(WLUK) — The last manager of the Appleton Foxes has died.
The team, now known as the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, said on social media it was “deeply saddened” by the death of Carlos Lezcano.
Lezcano managed the Foxes in 1993 and 1994, the team’s final two years at Goodland Field. Notably, Lezcano was the first professional manager of future major league all-star Alex Rodriguez when Rodriguez played for the Foxes in 1994.
Lezcano also managed the Milwaukee Brewers’ Arizona League affiliate in 2001 and 2002.
Lezcano played two years in the major leagues, for the Chicago Cubs, in 1980 and 1981.
Lezcano was 69.
