Misiorowski’s longest stint leads to a Brewers win over the Pirates
Brewers pitcher Jacob Misiorowski contributed seven innings, with eight strikeouts, during a Brewers win over the Pirates at PNC Park in Pittsburgh on Sunday, Sept. 7, 2025.
ARLINGTON, Texas – For the first time since torpedo bats took the baseball world by storm, the Milwaukee Brewers were swept in a series.Â
Despite back-to-back leadoff home runs by Brice Turang and Jackson Chourio, Freddy Peralta’s scoreless streak came to a screeching halt as the Texas Rangers made him labor for five innings while tagging him for five runs to send the Brewers to a 6-3 loss on Sept. 10 at Globe Life Field.Â
The surging Rangers, who entered the day 1½ games back of the third American League wild-card spot, won all three games to keep the Brewers from clinching a playoff spot and sending the visitors to their first sweep since the New York Yankees and their high-tech lumber ran roughshod over Milwaukee from March 27-30 in the first series of the season.Â
BOX SCORE: Rangers 6, Brewers 3
Jake Burger hit two home runs off Peralta, the first of which brought the right-hander’s streak of 30 straight innings without allowing a run to a close.Â
Texas put two more runs against Peralta the following inning, then Burger delivered the decisive blow of the afternoon with a two-run rocket to center in the fifth.Â
Peralta lost for just the second time since June 3 and sixth time this year.
William Contreras got his first full day off from playing since June 25, the day of Jacob Misiorowski and Paul Skenes facing off at American Family Field, a stretch of 65 straight games either starter at catcher or designated hitter.Â
Milwaukee had just one extra-base hit in 35 at-bats with runners on base in the series.
Jake Burger puts some mustard on another Freddy Peralta pitch
For the second time on the afternoon, Burger took Peralta out to the deepest part of the yard.
On pitch No. 101 from Peralta, Burger sat back on a hanging changeup and laced it on a frozen rope 420 feet to straightaway center to give the Rangers a 5-2 lead.
The five runs allowed by Peralta matched his season-high, set in a 10-3 loss to the Cubs on July 30.
Peralta required 113 pitches to get through five innings by the time all was said and done, the most in a game in his career and the highest total by a Brewers pitcher since Corbin Burnes chucked 115 on July 14, 2022 at San Francisco.
Joey Ortiz comes up with the bases loaded again but can’t deliver
For a franchise record-setting 28th time this year, Joey Ortiz came to bat with the bases full but, as has often been the case in those spots, couldn’t come through with a timely hit, grounding out to shortstop to end the fourth inning.
A two-out rally that saw Blake Perkins and Caleb Durbin single followed by an error on a Danny Jansen grounder to load the bases brought up Ortiz, who is now 5 for 27 with 16 RBIs in those spots this season. He entered the game tied with Casey McGehee in 2010 for the most bases-juiced plate appearances but is only tied for 30th in RBIs in that situation.
Freddy Peralta’s scoreless innings streak comes to an end, then he loses control of the zone
An Eli White solo home run on August 5 was the last time Peralta had allowed a run until Burger stepped into the box to lead off the second inning,.
Peralta got ahead of Burger, 0-2, in the count and tried to put him away with a fastball above the strike zone that the Rangers first baseman somehow got on top of and muscled 432 feet out to center for a solo homer.
It kept Teddy Higuera’s franchise record of 32 consecutive scoreless innings alive, with Peralta coming up six outs short.
Peralta then gave up a run for a second straight inning as his control slipped away from him, as it’s wont to do, in the third.
A one-out single by newly-minted Brewers killer Michael Helman was followed by consecutive walks before Joc Pederson’s RBI fielder’s choice tied the score at 2-2.
Making matters worse was what Peralta did next, balking in the go-ahead run from third before the second pitch to the next hitter, Burger. The 29-pitch inning elevated Peralta’s pitch count to 67 through three frames.
Brewers open with back to back jacks
After a night of frustration thanks to hard-hit outs all over the lineup, the Brewers first two hitters of the game made sure there was nothing left to luck.
Turang and Chourio opened the afternoon with back-to-back homers against Rangers starter Merrill Kelly. Turang’s 18th blast of the year was on an 0-2 cutter down the middle, then Chourio followed with his a shot left to record his second 20-homer season to begin his career.
Chourio is just two stolen bases away from a second 20/20 season before turning 22, as well.
