New York marks 23 years since 9/11, honors the victims at memorial

President Donald Trump will watch the Yankees-Tigers game on Sept. 11, 2025 after attending a Patriot Day memorial ceremony at the Pentagon to honor victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, according to the New York Post.

Trump will travel to Yankee Stadium in the Bronx on 9/11 where the Yanks will wrap a three-game set with the Detroit Tigers, per The Post and Fox News.

The Federal Aviation Administration, or FAA, has issued temporary flight restrictions for Sept 10 through Sept. 11 at LaGuardia Airport on Long Island due to VIP movement, usually an indicator the president is on the move.

Ceremonies this year honoring the victims of 9/11 will be held at Ground Zero in NYC, at the Pentagon in Virginia and in Bucks County’s Garden of Reflection, the official memorial of the Pennsylvania victims aboard United Airlines Flight 93 when it was hijacked and crashed on 9/11 in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

On Sept. 11, 2024, Trump and then-running mate JD Vance attended the 9/11 ceremony at Ground Zero with then-President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. Biden, Harris and Trump also attended a ceremony at the Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville. Biden and Harris also attended a similar ceremony at the Pentagon.

9/11 Pentagon memorial

President Donald Trump plans to attend a ceremony at the National 9/11 Pentagon Memorial in Arlington County, Virginia. Opened to the public in 2008, the two-acre park was constructed on land adjacent to the western portion of the Pentagon, where American Airlines Flight 77 was deliberately crashed on 9/11, killing 184 people.

The ceremony is expected to take place around 9 a.m. ET.

Where is the Pentagon? What is the Pentagon?

The Pentagon is a building in Arlington County, Virginia, near Washington, D.C. that is the headquarters of the U.S. Department of Defense. It has a unique pentagonal shape with five sides and houses 23,000 civilian and military employees. According to the Department of Defense, the building has 6.5 million square feet of office space, which is three times the floor space of the Empire State Building, but due to its spoke-and-ring design, it takes only 7 minutes to walk between the furthest two points.

Ground Zero ceremony

The 24th Annual Commemoration Ceremony at Ground Zero in downtown New York City will take place at 8:40 a.m. on Sept. 11, 2025. Vice President JD Vance is expected attend the ceremony, per The Post. While Trump will be at the Pentagon during the Ground Zero ceremony, it remains unclear if he will visit Ground Zero, the 9/11 Memorial or Museum on Sept. 11, 2025.

What is Ground Zero?

Ground Zero is the site in Lower Manhattan, New York City, where the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center stood before terrorists hijacked airliners and crashed the jets into the twin towers on Sept. 11, 2001. After the collapse of the two towers, which stood more than 1,300 feet tall and had 110 floors, the area was referred to as Ground Zero.
