The 2025 Taft College Cougars varsity baseball team went 16-24, with a 10-14 Central Valley Conference record. The Cougars closed out their season with a 6-4 win at Reedley College on April 26. But that doesn’t mean that the Cougars won’t hit the diamond again until 2026. There’s plenty of baseball ahead, but it is not in a traditional season format and its isn’t with the same team that competed on the Taft diamond in the spring.

According to Taft College head baseball coach Vince Maiocco, “The fall works differently than during the spring season; we are currently considered in a ‘non-traditional season.’”

Coach Maiocco added, “All so-called ‘fall games’ are called scrimmages, and no stats or results are kept (it’s a CCCAA rule).”

This early into the fall, individual players and their roles still have to be sorted out, but the fall roster for their nine-game scrimmage schedule includes 44 players. Of those athletes, seven are from Taft Union HS, 12 are from other Kern County high schools, 12 are from other U.S. states, seven are from Puerto Rico, three are from Japan, two are from Australia and one is from Canada. “They are truly a diverse group of student-athletes,” Coach Maiocco said.
