The Detroit Tigers game against the New York Yankees on Thursday, Sept. 11 might feel a bit more weighty than usual.
One reason is that the Tigers will be playing the Yankees on the 24th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks in New York, which the Yankees will almost certainly commemorate before and during the game.
Another reason is the expected attendance of President Donald Trump, who has spent much of the past 24 hours condemning the shooting of conservative advocate Charlie Kirk, who died at 31 on Wednesday.
Though the Tigers have already won the three-game series by winning the first two games on Tuesday, Sept. 9 and Wednesday, Sept. 10, baseball will likely take a back seat to ceremony on Thursday.
Here’s what you need to know about the Tigers visiting the Yankees on Thursday.
Is Donald Trump going to be at the Tigers vs Yankees game?
Yes. President Trump is expected to attend the Tigers game against the Yankees at Yankee Stadium on Thursday.
Trump was in New York earlier this week to attend the men’s final match at the U.S. Open, where No. 2 men’s player Carlos Alcaraz defeated No. 1 Jannik Sinner at Arthur Ashe Stadium. This visit to Yankee Stadium might have a bit more meaning, however, with the anniversary of 9/11 on many people’s minds.
Trump’s appearance will be under even closer supervision after the shocking death of Charlie Kirk, a Trump ally who was shot and killed at an event in Utah on Wednesday.
