The Los Angeles Dodgers dismantled the Colorado Rockies, 9-0, on Wednesday behind a four-hit game from Mookie Betts that was solidified with an eighth inning grand slam and a season-high 11 punch outs from Blake Snell. LA improved to 82-64 on the year as they swept the Rockies and won their fourth straight game. They took a three-game lead in the National League West over the San Diego Padres.
Ahead of the eventual clobbering, All-Star Will Smith was scratched from the lineup moments before first pitch. The team announced that right hand bone bruise soreness a the reason for the backstop’s absence.
In other news, the Dodgers activated utility star Tommy Edman on Wednesday, but in a corresponding move, optioned an outfielder. Edman can provide flexibility to the Dodgers lineup with his ability to play all over the infield and outfield.
Additionally, right-hander Roki Sasaki joined the team in Los Angeles. After a phenomenal showing in Triple-A on Tuesday, the 23-year-old is going to have a conversation about returning to the roster after his stint on the injured list and rehab assignment.
Finally, a Dodgers draft pick underwent major leg surgery after injuring it playing quarterback for the University of Missouri. Doctors anticipate a complete recovery from his fractured tibia in his right leg.
