Rockies Report, Game 146:

ROCKIES BOTTOM LINE: Mercifully, the Rockies’ season series with the Los Angeles Dodgers is over.

Los Angeles wrapped up a series sweep and an 11-2 season-series rout with a 9-0 whitewashing of the Rox at Dodger Stadium, holding Colorado to just two hits.

That came after back-to-back games in which the Dodgers carried no-hit bids into the sixth inning or later. Monday night’s game saw Los Angeles’ staff take a combined no-hitter into the ninth before Ryan Ritter singled off Dodgers closer Tanner Scott.

Wednesday night, the Rockies at least managed to muster a hit earlier, with Tyler Freeman getting a single off Blake Snell in the third. But only Hunter Goodman would be able to add another hit off the Dodgers starter with a sixth-inning single.

Six shutout innings from Blake. 🔥

Any doubt about the result ended when Mookie Betts walloped a grand slam at the expense of reliever Anthony Molina in the eighth inning. Teoscar Hernández tacked on a solo homer at the expense of Angel Chivilli for the final run of the night.

Colorado starter Kyle Freeland suffered his 15th loss, a career high. This marks the first time in club history that the Rox have had two 15-loss pitchers in the same season; Antonio Senzatela suffered loss No. 15 on Aug. 22 at Pittsburgh.

They are the first 15-loss pitchers for the Rox since Tyler Chatwood in 2017.

Colorado is 40-106.

ROCKIES STARTER’S REPORT

Thanks to a Kyle Karros error, just one of the four runs allowed by Freeland in the second inning went into the books as earned, as the Dodgers peppered Freeland with two singles and two doubles to pile on all the runs they would need — and then some.

Freeland settled down and nearly made it through the sixth inning, but loaded the bases with a two-out walk to Ohtani. Anthony Molina got out of the inning by retiring Mookie Betts; he worked a scoreless seventh before getting rocked in the eighth.

BITS AND PIECES

IT WAS DECIDED FOR THE ROCKIES WHEN: Betts hit his eighth-inning grand slam to double the Dodgers’ lead.

NUMBER TO NOTE: .092 — The Rockies’ team-wide batting average during the three-game series at Dodger Stadium.

WHAT’S NEXT: McCade Brown gets the call in the series opener at San Diego. Randy Vásquez starts for the Padres. First pitch from Petco Park is at 7:40 p.m. MDT.
