After hitting a walkoff, two-run home run in the 13th inning Wednesday night, Leo Rivas is getting a start as the Seattle Mariners open an important four-game home series with the Los Angeles Angels

The switch-hitting Rivas, whose second career home run came in his only at-bat of the 13-inning victory, is batting eighth and playing second base against Angels right-hander JosSoriano.
Luke Raley is also getting a start in right field and hitting seventh, with Victor Robles on the bench for the second straight day with a right-handed pitcher scheduled to start against the M’s.
The Mariners are rolling the rest of their regulars out as they attempt to pull into a tie with the Houston Astros for first place in the American League West. Houston lost 6-0 to the Blue Jays Thursday afternoon, cutting its lead in the division to just a half-game.

Rivas is getting his fourth start since rejoining the team from the minors on Sept. 1 when rosters expanded to 28 players. The 27-year-old infielder has been a sparkplug for the M’s in his limited action since returning, going 4 for 13 with a double, two home runs, five RBIs and three walks. He’s hitting .288 with a .416 on-base percentage and .813 OPS in 38 big league games this season.
Raley is in the starting lineup for just the second time this month and fourth time since returning from a stint on the injured list with back spasms in mid-August. The left-handed-hitting outfielder is just 4 of 22 and has struck out 10 times since returning. Raley is batting .209 with a .648 OPS and four home runs in 65 games this season.
Right-hander Bryce Miller is taking the mound for the Mariners as he looks to build of back-to-back solid starts. Miller, who struggled while dealing with elbow issues early this season, has allowed four runs over 11 1/3 innings over his past two outings, including pitching six innings for the first time all season on Aug. 31 in Cleveland.
José Soriano (10-10, 4.07 ERA) is the scheduled starter for the Angels.
The Mariners begin a four-game series with the Angels at 6:40 p.m. on Thursday. Radio coverage begins at 5:30 p.m. with the pregame show on Seattle Sports 710 AM and the Seattle Sports app.
