The Los Angeles Dodgers officially released right-hander Matt Sauer, per the team’s transaction log.
Sauer was designated for assignment by the Dodgers over the weekend when Dalton Rushing was placed on the injured list and Chuckie Robinson was called up. After clearing waivers, the Dodgers elected to release Sauer back to free agency.

Sauer, 26, joined the Dodgers this offseason on a minor league deal. The right-hander ended up making the roster for the Tokyo Series, but didn’t appear in either of the two games. He was then optioned back to Triple-A ahead of the domestic season opener.
A week later, Sauer was called up to the Dodgers and allowed an earned run in 1.2 innings of work. He was then sent back down and spent a couple weeks in the minors before returning in late April. He made his first (and only) MLB start of the season, pitching five innings and allowing one run in a 15-2 win over the Miami Marlins.
Sauer made five appearances with LA in May and another two in June. His final outing then came in August, when he allowed two earned runs over two innings of work.
Overall, Sauer made 10 big league appearances with the Dodgers this season, sporting a 6.37 ERA across 29.2 innings pitched. Across 18 appearances (17 starts) in Triple-A, he accrued a 5.86 ERA over 83 innings of work.
