BALTIMORE, MD (WBFF) — The Baltimore Orioles promoted general manager Mike Elias to president of baseball operations during the 2024-25 offseason, according to a report from the Athletic published Thursday.

However, no announcement was made at the time, and it was not publicly reported until today.

Additionally, the Athletic report says that the Orioles plan to hire a general manager to work under Elias.

Originally hired in November 2018, Elias has seen the club turn from rebuilding mode to a contender in 2023 and 2024.

However, after a slow start in 2025, Elias fired manager Brandon Hyde, and Baltimore never fully recovered, sitting at 68-77 and 9.5 games out of a playoff spot.

It’s possible that the team could return to contending status by receiving better health from some of its core players, but there will likely be further moves during the coming offseason.
