Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts is considering moving Teoscar Hernandez out of right field as the regular season winds down and October quickly approaches.

“I’m toying with it,” Roberts said. “Obviously, [we] like Andy in right, like the arm. Teo finished the season … last year in left field, so we’ve shown that we can win a championship with him in left field. Not quite there yet, but thinking about it.”

Hernandez has struggled defensively this season, ranking in the second percentile of qualified fielders in Outs Above Average. However, that isn’t much different from his ranking in 2024 when he was in the third percentile in OAA.

Nevertheless, changes could be made as the defending champions prepare for the postseason. With 16 games remaining in the regular season, there is little time left to decipher what the outfield will look like come October.

However, the return of Tommy Edman gives the Dodgers much more flexibility in the outfield. Edman was activated from the injured list Wednesday, and played in centerfield in his first start back.

The Dodgers new-look defensive alignment in the outfield featured Edman in center, Andy Pages in left and Hernandez in right against the Colorado Rockies. LA also has Alex Call and Michael Conforto to mix in; however, Conforto’s .621 OPS was tied for sixth worst among players with at least 400 plate appearances entering Wednesday.

There are several possibilities for the outfield now that Edman is back, but it remains unclear who Roberts trusts most for the playoffs.
