A much-maligned bullpen that gave up zero runs, contributions from some of the club’s under-the-radar players, it is a formula that often leads to success for the Blue Jays.

At the plate last night, Isiah Kiner-Falefa continued to excel in his second stint with the club after the utility infielder was recently claimed off waivers from the Pittsburgh Pirates.

IKF is known as Izzy, had two hits and scored one run in the Blue Jays’ 6-1 win over the Baltimore Orioles.

And then there was Myles Straw, who has embodied the unsung designation and had two hits, drove in one run and scored a run in reaching base three times.

Ernie Clement also had a hand in the win as the Blue Jays began their three-game series against the visiting Baltimore Orioles.

“It’s been fun to watch,’’ said Jays skipper John Schneider. “And these guys are ready. It has been really cool to have a group of guys pulling for one another knowing when it’s their time they’re ready for it.”

Clement had an RBI to give the Jays a 3-1 lead.

“It has been the story to our season where it can be anyone on any given night,’’ added Schneider.

This team approach also applies to the ‘pen, which has delivered of late following a very rough stretch.

Given the nature of bullpen arms, no one can say with certainty what the immediate future has in store.

At least on Friday night, the pen did pen itself a very encouraging story.

Three walks issued, but only one hit yielded, a single with two outs in the ninth inning.

Brendon Little looked good, while Louis Varland was electric in his appearance.

“They’re picking each other up,’’ added Schneider of his bullpen. “When you’re running through guys like that they’ve got to do their part.”

Ryan Borucki started the sixth inning in relief of starter Chris Bassitt and would walk two, each left-handed bats, which is not ideal given Borucki throws left-handed.

Toronto trailed the O’s 1-0, but chipped away by putting pressure on the visitors.

Schneider and his staff put the relievers in the right spot and for the most part, each reliever made the right pitch.

“They all did their part,’’ added the skipper.

“It’s hard to be a reliever because there are ups and downs … Being opened to what we’re not doing well and not losing confidence at the same time. I give a lot of credit to the guys.”
