Today’s roster move: Here

Colin Rea, RHP vs. Drew Rasmussen, RHP

Colin Rea keeps doing his fifth-starter thing. Every time you think he’s done, he puts together another good outing, as he did last Sunday vs. the Nationals after Drew Pomeranz opened — 5.1 innings, one run, six strikeouts.

Rea threw six shutout innings vs. the Rays May 1, 2024 in Milwaukee, but a lot of those Rays aren’t on the team anymore. In fact, the current Rays player who’s faced him most — and it’s not a lot — is former Cub Christopher Morel (2-for-6).

Speaking of former Brewers, Drew Rasmussen is one. He went to the Rays in the deal that brought Willy Adames to Milwaukee, which turned out to be a decent trade for both teams.

Rasmussen has thrown very well for the Rays in 28 starts this year, with a 2.64 ERA and 0.981 WHIP. He doesn’t walk guys — just 31 of 537 batters faced this year — so Cubs hitters should look to put the ball in play.

No Cubs hitter has faced him more than five times.

Please visit our SB Nation Rays site DRays Bay. If you do go there to interact with Braves fans, please be respectful, abide by their individual site rules and serve as a good representation of Cub fans in general and BCB in particular.

The 2025 Game Thread procedure will be identical to last year’s.

You’ll find the game preview posted separately on the front page two hours before game time (90 minutes for some early day games following night games).

At the same time, a StoryStream containing the preview will also post on the front page, titled “Cubs vs. (Team) (Day of week/date) game threads.” It will contain every post related to that particular game, including the First Pitch Thread and the overflow thread, as well as the recap when it’s published. The recap will also live on the front page as a separate post.

You will also be able to find the preview, First Pitch Thread and the overflow thread in the box marked “Chicago Cubs Game Threads” at the bottom of the front page (you can also find them in this section link). The StoryStream for each game can also be found in that section.

The First Pitch thread will post at five minutes before game time, then an overflow thread at 90 minutes after the scheduled game time.

Discuss amongst yourselves.
