The New York Mets‘ third seven-game losing streak in three months may be the one that costs them a trip to the postseason.

Despite $765 million man Juan Soto putting up MVP-level numbers, the Mets have lost eight in a row entering Sunday and their lead for the final NL wild-card spot is down to a half-game over the San Francisco Giants, with the Cincinnati Reds (1.5 games) and Arizona Diamondbacks (2 GB) also within striking distance.

New York has had one of the worst records in baseball since June, but it had built enough equity with a strong start to stay out of reach – until now.

Meanwhile, the Seattle Mariners have caught the Houston Astros in the American League West and will be jockeying for the division title and third AL wild-card spot entering the final two weeks.
