Continuing what has been a season-long trend, the Angels yet again could not piece together a performance worthy of a victory at T-Mobile Park. The Halos were defeated 5-3 by the Seattle Mariners on Saturday evening, extending their skid to three and leaving them on the verge of being swept.
Mitch Farris, making his third big league start, had his poorest outing thus far. Seattle did all of their scoring on the night against the 24-year-old, who lasted only four innings as he was tagged for five hits and five earned runs.
Control proved to be the biggest downfall for Farris, who walked four batters, giving the Mariners plenty of opportunities to convert with runners on base. Jorge Polanco did just that, ripping a two-run double to get the scoring going in the first after Cal Raleigh was hit by a pitch and Julio RodrÃguez collected a double of his own.

J.P. Crawford blasted a solo home run in the home side of the fourth, his 10th, to grab Seattle their third run. Command once again burned the rookie in the fifth, after Cal Raleigh’s leadoff single was followed up by walks issued to RodrÃguez and Polance.
With the bases loaded and nobody out, Ray Montgomery turned to his bullpen, handing the ball to right-hander Chase Silseth. The right-hander, making his second appearance of the series, ultimately conceded a one-out, two-run single to Josh Naylor that capped off an 11-pitch battle.
Quickly, Seattle had plated five runs and established their position in the driver’s seat. Los Angeles, however, remained down only three thanks to a pair of runs plated earlier on in the contest.
Jo Adell launched a deep solo home run to left-center in the second off of Mariners’ starter Bryan Woo, extending his team lead with longball number 36.Â
Bryce Teodosio followed with a game-tying RBI single five batters later, bringing the Angels even at 2 temporarily.Â
Los Angeles went on to head to the ninth trailing 5-2, hoping for a last-minute spark. Taylor Ward certainly started things on the right note as he led off the frame with a leafoff solo homer against right-hander Matt Brash.
Brash then allowed a single to Adell, bringing the tying run to the plate with nobody out. He remained poised, getting Christian Moore to ground into a rally-killing double play, before striking out Logan Davidson to notch his fourth save.
Of their six hits, the Angels produced three in the final two innings, but could not generate the runs necessary to make things interesting. Sammy Peralta did a nice job out of the bullpen, working three hitless innings to get a worn-out Los Angeles bullpen across the finish line.
With one game remaining in the series on Sunday afternoon, the Angels will look to avoid being handed a sweep and an 0-4 start to their 10-game road trip. Right-hander Kyle Hendricks (7-9, 4.58 ERA) will duel against Mariners’ right-hander George Kirby (8-7, 4.56 ERA).
Seattle, now winners of eight in a row, has pulled even with the Houston Astros for first place in the AL West. The Halos, at 69-80, are now just 1/2 game ahead of the Athletics as they look to avoid last in the division.
First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 p.m. PT.
