The Los Angeles Dodgers selected Aidan West, one of NC State’s top incoming freshmen, with the 135th overall pick of the 2025 MLB Draft.

The shortstop out of Long Reach (Ellicott City, Md) ranks as the Wolfpack’s top commit of its incoming freshman class according to Perfect Game. PG ranks him as the best shortsop and No. 4 overall player from the state of Maryland as well as the No. 38 shortstop and No. 102 overall nationally for the class of 2025.

Standing at six foot two, 210 pounds, West utilizes his frame well to generate power without too much effort. His smooth left-handed swing shows high upside at the plate. That ease of motion also shows in the field where he plays sound defense with the versatility to play anywhere in the infield. Should he stick with NC State, he’ll join a long tradition of shortstops developed by the Pack9.

Justin DeCriscio most recently carried that banner with a solid season with the Wolfpack. The Pack9’s produced plenty of professional talent at that position as well, with Brandon Butterworth, Kalae Harrison and obviously Trea Turner going pro out of NC State. If he chooses to go pro out of high school, West’s 135th overall selection carries a projected pick value of $544,900.
