Rockies Report, Game 150:
ROCKIES BOTTOM LINE: After falling into a 7-0 hole in the first three innings, the Rockies stormed back to within one run heading into the eighth inning, but drew no closer and concluded a 1-6 California road trip with a 9-6 defeat at Petco Park on Sunday afternoon.
Mickey Moniak helped drag the Rox back into it with a pair of homers — a solo blast in the fourth inning and a three-run shot in the sixth that scored Tyler Freeman and Ezequiel Tovar. He drove in another run in the seventh inning on a single to left field; Tovar also plated a run with a double.

But the Rockies went three up and three down in the eight, with Kyle Farmer taking a called third strike to end the frame. The call drew the ire of interim manager Warren Schaeffer, who argued and was ejected by home-plate umpire James Jean.
It was Schaeffer’s second ejection of the season; he got tossed at Milwaukee on June 29. Immediately after Jean tossed Schaeffer, the game got away from the Rox, as the Padres quickly got two men on base, both of whom came home on Gavin Sheets’ ground-rule double that provided the final margin.
First baseman Blaine Crim had his first 0-for day after being called up Friday, going hitless in four at-bats. The middle of the lineup had a rough day, with the 4-5-6 spots going 0-for-11 with a walk.
Colorado is 41-109.
ROCKIES STARTER’S REPORT
The first inning saw death by paper cuts for starter Germán Márquez: three runs through four singles and a walk, including two bunt singles. One swing did the second-inning damage when Jackson Merrill pulled an outside sinker to left-center field for a three-run homer that doubled San Diego’s lead.
Márquez has now allowed at least one home run in nine-consecutive starts, with 13 homers allowed in that span.
He has now dropped four-consecutive decisions, falling to 3-14. Márquez had never absorbed more than 11 defeats prior to this season. His 6.65 ERA is on pace to be a career high for seasons in which he pitched more than one game.
