The Arizona Diamondbacks have recalled righty reliever Juan Morillo from Triple-A Reno ahead of Monday’s game against the San Francisco Giants, the team announced.
Pitcher Anthony DeSclafani was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.
Morillo has been in and out of the majors for the Diamondbacks this season, pitching in 38 games with a 4.55 ERA, 32 strikeouts and 1.77 WHIP. He last pitched for the D-backs on Aug. 26.
DeSclafani’s designation comes after he last pitched for the D-backs on Sunday against the Minnesota Twins where the righty struggled, surrendering two runs on three hits, two of them on home runs in 2.2 innings pitched.
After signing with the D-backs in June, DeSclafani largely pitched as a long reliever and as the team’s fifth starter before placed on the injured list with right thumb inflammation in August.
He pitched in 13 games for the D-backs this season, posting a 1-2 record with 5.12 ERA and 36 strikeouts.
