An original member of the Texas Rangers has died.

Ted Ford passed away Monday morning at the age of 78, the team announced.

The outfielder hit a team-high 14 home runs with 50 RBI in 129 games in 1972, the Rangers’ inaugural season in Arlington.

The Rangers send their condolences to the family of former MLB outfielder Ted Ford, who passed away this morning at age 78. Ted was an original Ranger, hitting a team high 14 homers with 50 RBI in 129 games in 1972. He also played with Cleveland in 1970-71-73. Rest in peace.

The inaugural Rangers, managed by Hall of Famer Ted Williams, went 54-100.

He also played with the Cleveland Indians for the other three seasons of his MLB career (1970-71, 1973).

From Vineland High School in New Jersey, Ford was Cleveland’s first-round draft pick in 1966.
