Will Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal win back-to-back Cy Young Awards?

Nick Pollack, founder of “Pitcher List,” shares his insights on “Days of Roar” on Tarik Skubal vs. Garrett Crochet in 2025 AL Cy Young race.

The Detroit Tigers have a big home series coming up against the Cleveland Guardians, but first they’ll have the day off on Monday, Sept. 15.

The Tigers are hosting the Guardians in a three-game series from Tuesday-Thursday, Sept. 16-18, at Comerica Park in Detroit with a chance to win the American League Central Division race. A series sweep would give the Tigers (85-65) the title for the first time since 2014 since they would own the tiebreaker against the Guardians (78-71) by winning the season series.

But even one or two wins in the series would still be helpful for the Tigers’ odds at winning the division, which according to FanGraphs are at 98.3% as of Monday morning.

Here’s what you need to know about the Tigers’ upcoming series against the Guardians.

The Tigers have an off day on Monday before resuming play with a three-game home series against the Guardians starting on Tuesday.

Following a 2-0 win over the Miami Marlins at loanDepot Park in Miami on Sunday, Sept. 14, the Tigers’ magic number to clinch a playoff spot is currently at 6.

The Tigers’ magic number to clinch a division title is 7 ahead of Tuesday’s game, which means the Tigers could clinch both a playoff berth and a division title this week. The Tigers will win the AL Central with a sweep of Cleveland, since they would seal the tiebreaker against the Guardians by winning the head-to-head season series. The Tigers currently lead the 13-game season series, 4-3. The Tigers would have 88 wins with a series sweep; the Guardians would have 10 games left with the most wins they could get also being 88.
