Mike Trout and the Los Angeles Angels hit rock bottom Sunday with an 11-2 blowout loss to the Mariners. The defeat ended any chance of sneaking into the postseason and making it their 11th straight year without a playoff appearance, the longest active drought in MLB.

The Mariners had no trouble putting the game away. George Kirby struck out 14 over 6.1 innings, while Cal Raleigh hit his 54th home run to tie Mickey Mantle’s record for most by a switch-hitter in a single season. The Angels, led by legendary Mike Trout, managed just two runs and were officially eliminated from postseason contention.

While the Angels’ disastrous performances year after year have been frustrating, many fans believe the bigger question isn’t about the team, it’s about Trout.

The Angels’ fans took to social media to slam the LA side, which they believe does not deserve a legend like Trout.

Check out some reactions:

“Can we get trout to a playoff team just once in his career before he absolutely falls apart to injury?” one fan commented.

“Mike Trout wanted this when he signed that extension; he knew they were shit,” one X user wrote.

“Bro why the hell did you re-sign to commit your life to this bullshit?” another user questioned.

“Free Mike Trout!” one fan replied.

“Can’t believe Trout committed his whole career to this org. Sad,” another fan commented.

“Poor Trout,” one wrote.

“Trout needs to retire,” another reacted.

For Mike Trout, the season has been an on-and-off chapter. Restricted by injuries, he has played 119 games, hitting .231 with 21 home runs and 58 RBIs. The 11-time All-Star and three-time AL MVP remains one of the best of his generation, but frequent injuries this season and a lack of support have kept him far from the playoff stage once again.

The numbers show just how bad things have been. Despite Trout’s legendary resume, including 399 career home runs and a .976 career OPS, he hasn’t played in a postseason game since 2014. With his 12-year, $426.5 million contract still running, the criticism has only grown louder that the Angels have wasted his prime.

It will be interesting to see whether Trout will remain loyal to the franchise or push for a move to a contender before it’s too late.

The Angels have another lost season. And Trout, one of the greatest players of his era, is once again stuck watching October baseball from home.
