The Chicago Cubs outfield has looked very different at various times throughout the season, with injuries occurring and young prospects getting opportunities.

When everyone in the Cubs’ outfield is healthy, there are simply not enough spots for everyone to play.

The Cubs’ outfielder consists of Ian Happ, Pete Crow-Armstrong, Kyle Tucker, Seiya Suzuki, Owen Caissie, Willi Castro and Kevin Alcántara. With six players and only three sports available, the Cubs are likely to move on from at least one, if not more of their outfielders this offseason.

Could Seiya Suzuki Be Playing His Final Games As a Cub?

The Cubs outfield has some of the most productive players on the team. Crow-Armstrong leads the lead in home runs, Suzuki leads the team in RBI and Tucker leads the team in OPS.

However, with Caissie and Alcántara on the rise as young prospects, the Cubs may be open to letting a veteran go this offseason, and Suzuki may be the best option for the Cubs.

With Tucker as a free agent at the end of the season, the Cubs may lose him in free agency. But, that still leaves five guys to fill three spots.

Suzuki is having another solid year in Chicago, batting .244 with a .785 OPS, 27 home runs and his team-leading 91 RBI. However, most of his production came in the first half of the season.

Coming out of the All-Star break, Suzuki was batting .265 with an .876 OPS. Since, his average has gradually dropped over .020 and his OPS has gradually fallen almost .100.

Suzuki hit a home run in the first game back from the All-Star break, and since then he’s hit one in the entire second half of the season. The Cubs’ outfielder also only has 11 RBI since that point.

Happ seems to be a Cub for life, Crow-Armstrong is the future of the Cubs’ franchise, and Caissie and Alcántara are two more young players to build on. Suzuki is a tradable player at the end of the season, and may be more useful to Chicago in a trade package.

The Cubs could get something valuable in return for the four-year veteran, and allow their young prospects to develop in the outfield.

However, for now the Cubs will be focused on trying to make a deep run in the 2025 payoffs, and hope Suzuki can turn things around to be a big part of it.
