Ken Rosenthal has been one of the most respected voices in baseball for decades. But even for him, things can get complicated. The veteran reporter recently found himself in the middle of controversy after colliding with Brewers team photographer Scott Paulus during the Brewers vs. Cardinals game, which sparked a huge backlash.
As teammates rushed to douse Andruw Monasterio with ice water after a thrilling win, Rosenthal tried to step out of the splash zone. In the chaos, he accidentally collided with Scott, knocking him to the ground.
The veteran MLB Insider later apologized for the incident. On Foul Territory, he explained that the Brewers incident was purely accidental. He said he was trying to dodge the water dump and ran into Paulus by mistake. Rosenthal said he apologized “profusely” afterward and even joked he hopes to “share a laugh” with the photographer someday.
However, many fans might be surprised to know that wasn’t the only time Rosenthal made headlines for the wrong reasons.
When Padres Banned Ken Rosenthal From Dugout After Critical ColumnKen Rosenthal (Image Credits: Imagn)
Notably, Rosenthal was once briefly banned from the Padres’ dugout after he wrote a critical piece on the team during the 2024 NLDS. In his write-up for The Athletic, Rosenthal went after several of the team’s biggest names. He called Manny Machado’s antics “punkish,” described Fernando Tatis Jr. as a “smiling, dancing peacock,” and likened Jurickson Profar to a kid pulling the fire alarm at school.
Players and staff reportedly felt the comments were not just critical but disrespectful. For Game 3, they banned him from the dugout and refused to do the usual in-game interviews on Fox. By Game 4, the ban was lifted.
Despite the two controversies, Rosenthal remains one of the most respected and knowledgeable voices in baseball, and it’s unlikely the recent incident will have any major impact on his decorated career.
