BALTIMORE, MD (WBFF) — Last season, Jordan Westburg was recognized for his efforts on the field as a member of the American League All-Star team. This year, the Orioles third baseman is garnering respect for the man he is outside the lines.
MLB on Monday named Westburg the Orioles’ nominee for the 2025 Roberto Clemente Award, bestowed annually to the player who “best represents the game of baseball through extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy, and positive contributions, both on and off the field.” It’s the first time in his young career that Westburg has been nominated.
“Throughout this season, Westburg has continued to demonstrate that he is more than just an exceptional athlete,” the team wrote in a news release. “Both on and off the field, Westburg is a role model for fans throughout Birdland. His extraordinary character, sportsmanship, community involvement, philanthropy, and positive contributions are evident in his willingness to lead a young Orioles clubhouse and use his platform to continue to give back, the same qualities that made Roberto Clemente so beloved during his illustrious 18-year career.”
The 26-year-old, who’s currently on the 10-day injured list with an ankle sprain, earned the selection for his character and leadership qualities, in addition to the charity work that he and his wife Anna Claire have done in the Baltimore region. Westburg will be recognized Monday before the Orioles’ game against the Chicago White Sox as part of Roberto Clemente Day; all players will wear No. 21 patches in Clemente’s memory, and Westburg will don the number on his jersey.
