One of the most consistent members of the Los Angeles Dodgers this season has been All-Star third baseman Max Muncy.

After starting the season with a brutal slump, batting .180 with no home runs through his first 28 games, Muncy started to wear glasses to address astigmatism in his right eye. The production since sporting the new look has been night and day.

The slugging third baseman has been hitting .284 with an OPS of .999 since wearing his glasses. Even after a scary looking knee injury sidelined him for a month in July, and an oblique injury held him out for close to another month, Muncy is back for the home stretch of the season.

Despite the injuries, MLB insider Jeff Passan labeled the Dodgers as ‘likely’ to pick up Muncy’s $10 million option this offseason.

Although the first month of the season surely would have been grounds to let the All-Star test free agency, the $10 million salary for next season almost feels like a budget deal.

Muncy turned 35 years old last month, but his bat has been undeniable this season. In his eight appearances after his knee injury, he hit the cover off the ball, batting .348 with an OPS of 1.401.

The other elements to consider if the Dodgers were to have a reunion with the man that has been in their infield since 2018 are, unfortunately, his injuries. Specifically, the most recent ailment that kept him out, his oblique, was the same injury that kept him out for about three months last season.

Muncy has shown no signs of slowing down, but it is worth considering that he will be 36 years old going into next October. Although he is no spring chicken, $10 million for the kind of production he has been displaying in 2025 can prove to be extremely valuable for LA next year at a fraction of the price the Dodgers would spend otherwise.
