Yankees urged to keep Anthony Volpe off postseason roster for Paul Goldschmidt reason originally appeared on The Sporting News
Things haven’t exactly gone as planned for the New York Yankees and Anthony Volpe. Volpe was a star in New Jersey coming out of high school, arguably the top player in the state at the time.

He did everything he had to do at Delbarton and the summer circuit to warrant being a first-round pick.
Playing in New York City is no easy task, something that many can’t accomplish. That includes multi-time All-Stars, 10-plus-year professionals, and many more.
Will Anthony Volpe play in the postseason?
Volpe is a youngster and will have some things to figure out, but some don’t believe that his immediate help is necessary on the Yankees’ playoff roster. That includes Jake Elman of FanSided, who urged the Yankees to keep him off the postseason roster and have Paul Goldschmidt take his at-bats instead.

“Say what you want about Volpe, and Yankees fans have no shortage of opinions, but it’s objectively sad how far he’s fallen,” wrote Elman. “Volpe grew up a Yankees fan in New Jersey, went from a mainstay in the lineup to an embattled 24-year-old with a potentially uncertain future in New York…
“Who should Boone use instead? This might be an unpopular opinion, given the 38-year-old Paul Goldschmidt’s hitting struggles, but we’d much rather have the five-time Silver Slugger as a pinch-hit option rather than Volpe. Goldschmidt is hitting .361 with a 1.061 OPS against lefties, and he offers the Yankees the ability to move Ben Rice from first to catcher if needed.”

Goldschmidt wouldn’t be able to take all of his at-bats, considering they don’t play the same position, but it’s more of a righty-hitter type of thing.

Aaron Boone has some tough decisions to make over the next few weeks, and Volpe could be one of them, unfortunately. However, it might be a better decision to keep him on the roster and not hurt the youngster’s confidence further.
