Big sports night in New York City bringing fans from Connecticut to the big apple

  • May 16, 2025

NEW HAVEN, CT. (WFSB) – Tonight is a big sports night in the big apple.

The New York Yankees will take on the New York Mets in the famous “Subway Series” and the Knicks will look to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals when they take on the Boston Celtics in the NBA Playoffs.

That means that many fans from Connecticut are on their way to New York City to catch the action.

One of Metro North’s trains went straight to Yankee Stadium and pulled out at around 4:00 p.m.

The series between the Mets and Yankees is always exciting for fans with bragging rights on the line.

Both teams are off to great starts in the young season and lead their respective divisions.

There is always some trash talk exchanged between the two teams, but this weekend, there is more fuel to the fire.

That’s because Mets Superstar Outfielder Juan Soto is making his first appearance back at Yankee Stadium since he traded the pinstripes for the orange and blue last offseason.

It comes as no surprise that fans have had this game pinpointed on their calendars for a long time.

“He’s a great player, can’t take anything away, but the Yankees are going to prevail,” said Nelson Pamias, Milford.

“All Blue and orange, all weekend. Yankees aren’t going to do anything with us,” said JT Torres, Waterbury.

As for the Knicks and Celtics, it will serve as the biggest game for the Knicks in 25 years. The winner of the series will play the Indiana Pacers with a trip to the NBA Finals on the line.
