Defending Class 5 state champion Lafayette went 3-1 in the 18th annual Troy Leadoff Classic.

The Lancers scored a 5-4 win over the St. Dominic Crusaders in the third-place game.

Senior shortstop Riley Mulligan hit a solo homer to lift Lafayette to the victory. Mulligan has committed to play for Army when she graduates.

Mulligan is no stranger to game-winning home runs. She hit a three-run walk-off homer in the eighth inning last fall in Lafayette’s 3-0 win for the state title. Mulligan hit six homers, drove in 22 runs and posted a .369 batting average and a .690 slugging percentage last year.  

In Pool C play, Lafayette defeated Bowling Green 14-8 and Timberland 5-4.

Tournament champion Fort Zumwalt West stopped Lafayette 11-8 in the semifinal game.

Senior catcher Sydney Berger, who will play next year for Saint Louis University, reached 100 hits in her career during the tournament. Berger hit .431 with six home runs and drove in 22 runs.
