Royals to skip Lugo’s start due to finger inflammation, recall Cameron for spot start

  • May 16, 2025

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Another Kansas City Royals starter will have his start skipped due to a minor injury.

Royals manager Matt Quatraro told reporters Friday that right-handed pitcher Seth Lugo had inflammation in his right middle finger. As a result, Kansas City will skip Lugo’s scheduled start in Saturday’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Quatraro said left-handed pitcher Noah Cameron will once again be recalled from Triple-A Omaha to make a spot start for Kansas City. The club is hopeful Lugo will not need to be placed on the injured list due to the injury.

Cameron made his MLB debut on April 30 against the Tampa Bay Rays when Royals ace Cole Ragans had his start skipped due to groin tightness. In his spot start, Cameron pitched 6.1 innings, allowing just one hit and no runs while taking a no-hitter into the seventh inning.

Cameron’s start resulted in his first MLB win as the Royals beat the Rays, 3-0. The St. Joseph, Missouri, native is now set to make his first start at Kauffman Stadium.

Lugo has started nine games this season and has a 3-4 record and 3.02 earned run average in 56.2 innings of work.
