There will be bonus baseball for Nathan Martorella, who will be in the International League playoffs for the Miami Marlins Triple-A team in Jacksonville.
Martorella, who was promoted to Triple-A Jacksonville on August 8, has hit two homers and driven in seven runs in the month of September.
Between stops at Double-A Pensacola and Triple-A Jacksonville, the left-handed hitting first baseman has hit 13 homers this year with 19 doubles, driving in 59 runs.
The former Salinas High multi-sport standout and Herald Male Athlete of the Year has a career high 11 stolen bases, compiling a .308 on-base percentage.
Originally drafted in the fifth round in 2022 by the San Diego Padres out of Cal, Martorella has 53 homers and 224 runs batted in over four minor league seasons.
The 24-year-old has walked 210 times over 417 games to date, compiling a .331 on-base percentage and a .235 batting average. Martorella sports a .987 fielding percentage between first base and left field.
Jacksonville, the first-half champions in the International League, will begin a best-of-three playoff series on Sept. 23.
